The Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA) clarifies that the decision was taken after the Portuguese Government gave its favorable opinion to the presidential decree that proposes the renewal of the state of emergency, and the Council of Ministers may declare new measures to combat the covid-19 pandemic.
So, the new date will be proposed taking into account the evolution of the pandemic situation, to guarantee the participation of all registered athletes. Portugal accounts for at least 7,286 deaths associated with covid-19 in 436,579 confirmed cases of infection, according to the latest bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
The state of emergency enacted on November 9 to combat the pandemic was renewed until January 7, with a curfew between 11 pm and 5 am in municipalities in the continent with the highest risk of contagion.
