Songs of Freedom for all ages at Coliseu Porto Ageas
with JP Simões, Marta Ren and Orquestra de Jazz de Espinho
In the week that marks the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, the Promenade Concerts at Coliseu Porto Ageas are inspired by the Carnation Revolution and present “Canções da Liberdade”, on Sunday, April 28th, at 11 am.
The Espinho Jazz Orchestra launched a challenge to nine composers to create new works on iconic songs that, all over the world, materialized the protest, the fight for freedom, the defence of human rights, justice and the most basic principles of human dignity.
From José Afonso to Nina Simone, from Lluis Llach to the Liberation Music Orchestra, from Sérgio Godinho to Sam Cooke, including U2, the repertoire of this concert proposes a vision of music as an engine for change, collective mediation and a cry for freedom.
Giving voice to these songs, which include hymns such as “Grândola, Vila Morena” or “A Change Is Gonna Come”, we will have two very special guests: Marta Ren and JP Simões. Musical direction by Eduardo Cardinho and Paulo Perfeito.
One Sunday a month, in a relaxed atmosphere, the Promenade Concerts invite children and adults to enter the environment of emblematic works and discover all the curiosities, with comments from musicologist Jorge Castro Ribeiro and multimedia design by Sara Botelho. A fun experience for families and children, with the participation of several orchestras and special guests. “Canções da Liberdade” will also be performed on the 26th (sold out) and 30th of April, at 9:30 pm, at the Espinho Auditorium.
Tickets cost between €12 and €14. 20% discounts for students, Amigos Coliseu, Family tickets (+ 3 members), Over 65s and Porto card.
