Campo Pequeno welcomed Rui Veloso on the most romantic night in Lisbon, at the Montepio À Vezes o Amor Festival, the concert “As Canções de Amor de Rui Veloso”, was the opportunity to listen again to all those songs, which accompanied us throughout a life that we can listen to a thousand times, but they are always new and unique, every time Rui Veloso sings them.
The concert began with lots of laughter, a moment of stand-up comedy with Carlos Moura, who brought humor and a good mood, to Campo Pequeno, under the theme of love, between lovers, together or married, ending with a call, to Carlos‘ wife, live, and with the help of the public, to declare the love he feels for her.
It was with a lot of love that the night continued, the love for Rui’s love songs, the love and affection that the public always gives him, the love that each song from Rui to Carlos Tê conquered in the collective memory of the Portuguese.
It was with “Já não ha Canções de Amor” that Rui opened the show in Lisbon, after having been in Porto, followed by “Não me Esqueci de Ti”, “O Prometido é Due”, “Todo o Tempo do Mundo”, “A Ilha”, “Beirã”, “Regras de Sensatez” and “Nativa”, with the fans singing with him, from start to finish.
It was then that Veloso introduced his guest, who despite being younger, is also always received with great affection on the stages he goes to, Maro, and together they sang two emblematic songs, “Jura” and “Primeiro Beijo”, in a beautiful moment. of complicity experienced in the Lisbon room.
The concert continued with other love songs, or almost, by Rui Veloso, “Guadiana”, “Um Trolha da Areosa”, “Fado do Ladrão”, “Porto Sentido”, “Morena de Azul” and “Sayago” and many others could be part of the concert lineup, which came to an end with “Lado Lunar”.
But of course, the public wanted more, it’s impossible to go to a Rui Veloso concert and not want to hear more of him, with fans even asking for songs, including, of course, the song that marks the singer’s career, “Chico Fininho”, but at Campo Pequeno, Rui treated the audience to three fantastic songs, “Cavaleiro Andante”, “Porto Côvo” and ended with “A Paixão”, very suitable to the theme of the concert and the Festival.
The Father of Portuguese Rock and Much More
Rui Veloso needs no introduction, he is a legendary musician, an icon of Portuguese culture, a name that transcends generations and musical styles. For many, he is simply “The Father of Portuguese Rock”, the person responsible for changing national music and paving the way for a new era.
But Rui Veloso’s story goes far beyond rock, at the age of six, he already mastered the Harmonica, and soon surrendered to the charms of the guitar, inspired by legends such as B.B. King and Eric Clapton. At the age of 23, in 1980, the world discovered Ar de Rock, his debut album that exploded on the radio and catapulted him to stardom. Songs like “Chico Fininho”, “Porto Sentido” and “Sei que és Louca” became instant anthems, immortalizing his name in the history of Portuguese music.
And from there, the legend only grew. Lado B, As Canções de Amor, Noites Traiçoeiras and A Espuma das Canções are just some of the albums that mark his discography and Portuguese music, many unforgettable hits mark his musical journey.
His musical genius led him to collaborate with big names in Brazilian or African music, such as Maria Bethânia, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Dani Silva and Tito Paris. His influence on the Portuguese music scene is undeniable, inspiring and paving the way for so many artists who followed in his footsteps.
His music transcends barriers, connecting with the soul of the Portuguese people and his concerts are true celebrations, where crowds sing his timeless songs in unison, as happened in Campo Pequeno once again. With more than 40 years of career, Rui Veloso continues to enchant audiences, his energy and passion for music are contagious, always inspiring those who see him.
