The Polytechnic of Coimbra (IPC) announces the annual edition of the Polytechnic of Coimbra Awards, with applications open until April 27, 2025.
The initiative aims to recognise the sporting and scientific merit, innovative spirit and social and cultural involvement of students, research professors and non-teaching professionals in the academic community. The distinction will take place at the Commemorative Ceremony of the Institution’s Anniversary, scheduled for July 9, at the São Francisco Convent.
For the President of the IPC, Jorge Conde, the annual presentation of the Polytechnic of Coimbra Awards is an important moment of recognition for all members of the community who make a difference and elevate the name of the institution. “All the winners stand out in their field of activity with ideas, projects and objectives achieved and have the common mark of revealing work and performance that deserves to be highlighted, in addition to equally dignifying the Polytechnic of Coimbra”, he states.
The “Athlete of the Polytechnic of Coimbra” Award distinguishes up to three members of the academic community who have proven themselves to be high-performance athletes. Participation in national teams and important classifications (1st, 2nd or 3rd place) in National or International University Championships, promoted by entities such as FADU, EUSA or FISU, representing the IPC or its student structures, is valued. In addition to sporting merit, candidates’ contribution to promoting the image of the Polytechnic of Coimbra in society is also valued.
The “Science & Innovation” Awards recognise the scientific work developed at the IPC in three categories. The first, “Researcher at the Polytechnic of Coimbra”, is aimed at doctors who work as professors, researchers or non-teaching professionals at the institution, whose career stands out for its impact on the scientific field. This award is accompanied by a grant worth 1,500 euros, intended to finance activities within the scientific field of the institution itself. This is followed by the “Young Researcher of the Polytechnic of Coimbra” Award, which recognises students or graduates less than a year ago, under the age of 35, who have distinguished themselves through scientific initiatives. The distinction also includes the award of a scholarship worth 1,000 euros to encourage the continuation of the individual’s academic or professional path. The third category, “Ciência+ do Politécnico de Coimbra”, distinguishes teams of researchers who have developed Applied Research projects, with a relevant impact on society or the economic sector. The winning team will receive a grant of €3,000, intended to reinforce their respective scientific activities.
The “Sociedade do Politécnico de Coimbra” Award aims to distinguish projects promoted by members of the academic community with significant prominence in regional or national development, particularly in the areas of sustainability, innovation and territorial cohesion. The award includes a grant worth €1,500 to be administered by the proponent(s) to implement or continue the initiative.
In turn, the “Inspired by Courage of the Polytechnic of Coimbra” Award aims to recognise up to three members, or groups of members, of the IPC community who have developed, voluntarily and sustainably, social intervention projects that result in positive and visible changes. Projects associated with institutions, associations or non-governmental organisations, whose actions are examples of active citizenship and promote a more just, supportive and participatory society, are eligible.
