Registration for the Maria João Fontainhas National Performing Arts Prize, created by the Sintra City Council in partnership with Chão de Oliva, is open until June 30th.
This award is intended to reward a performing arts project, within the scope of theatre, dance, puppetry, music or transversal to these areas.
The projects to be submitted must be unpublished, written in Portuguese, and maybe individual or co-authored. The texts can be dramatic or scripts, and in the latter case, they must contain all the elements that the candidates consider necessary for their editing, taking into account the feasibility of producing the show.
The originals in the competition must take into account the duration of the show, which cannot be less than an hour or more than an hour and a half. The number of interpreters required for its implementation should not exceed three.
The prize has a monetary value of €5,000 and consists of publicizing and assembling the winning piece. The assembly of the awarded work will be carried out by Chão de Oliva, within a period of two years, counting from the date decided by the competition jury.
The Maria João Fontainhas National Performing Arts Award is a biennial and aims to honour the actress Maria João Fontaínhas, born in Sintra, for her commitment in the area of culture and dramatic expression and as an outstanding leader of this theatre company.
Its realization aims to promote and honour the performing arts in Portugal, to contribute to the renewal and emergence of new creators, and also to promote Sintra as a place of culture.
