Applications open for pioneer award in the national biotechnology ecosystem

It is called Amyris Innovation BIG Impact Award and intends to distinguish an innovative project in the area of ​​Biotechnology.

This competition, unique in the national biotechnology ecosystem, is an initiative of the Association of Alumni (ALUMNI) and the School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University in Porto, in partnership with Amyris Bio Products Portugal, and aims to promote Innovation in Biotechnology (sustainable, innovative product or service that benefits society) and is open to the entire Society.

Hugo Choupina, co-organizer of the award and of the 3rd Biotechnology Innovation Forum “Fostering Smart Innovation Synergies”, which takes place on October 9, explains that “the Amyris Innovation BIG Impact Award aims to distinguish ideas and/or projects based on biotechnology that develop innovative and sustainable products/solutions in different areas (fighting rare and debilitating diseases, reducing the environmental footprint, safe and efficient industrial production, clean energy, among others), having the potential to have a tremendous positive impact for society and for the planet.”

Amyris Innovation Think Big Award: Disruption in Biotechnology

Applications for the new Amyris Innovation BIG Impact Award, launched by the Alumni of the Escola Superior de Biotecnologia and the Universidade Católica in Porto, in partnership with Amyris Bio Products Portugal, are open until July 22, 2021. The first step is the submission of an Extended-Abstract via the Conference website. After submission and fulfillment of all requirements, the jury will analyze the degree of innovation, market potential and the issue of economic and environmental sustainability.

The finalist projects will be presented on October 9 at the 3rd Biotechnology Innovation Forum “Fostering Smart Innovation Synergies”. The top three teams awarded by a Scientific Committee and Forum participants will win a monetary prize sponsored by Amyris Inc.

In this year’s edition of the Biotechnology Innovation Forum “Fostering Smart Innovation Synergies”, the importance of interdisciplinarity and synergies for Innovation set the tone for several panels on topics related to Economy, Ethics, Law, Communication and Sustainability.
