Cantabile Festival returns to Lisbon with free concerts
The tenth edition of the Cantabile Festival will take place from 21 to 27 September.
Returning to the capital from September 21st to 27th is the Cantabile Festival, one of the most important chamber music events in the country. So stick to your agenda and don’t miss concerts featuring soloists celebrated nationally and internationally, such as Maria – Elisabeth Lott, Diemut Poppen, Pavel Gomziakov, Matan Porat, Raul da Costa, and André Baleiro. As for the venues where the concerts take place, the Cantabile Festival will be present on the most iconic ‘stages’ of the city of Lisbon. You can then count on music at the Belém Cultural Center (September 21), the São Carlos National Theater (September 24 and 25), the Convento dos Cardaes (September 27) and the Casa Pia de Lisboa (September 23).
Under the artistic direction of Diemut Poppen, Cantabile has marked the rhythms of the metropolis. In 2010, remember, the Festival, under the initiative of the Goethe Institute, was presented for the first time.
Since then, it is his hallmark to offer a “variety of classical and modern repertoires, which link eras and cross masterpieces of the past with contemporary composers such as Rihm, Ligeti, Kurtag, Kancheli or the Portuguese Antonio Pinho Vargas and Luís Tinoco”, you can read in the statement sent to the newsrooms.
Note that the Festival has shown growing concern for social inclusion through music, manifested, for example, through the offer of instruments. “This year is no exception and Casa Pia will be the target of a pedagogical program for its art students.”
This Festival also features a collaboration with major institutions such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the São Carlos National Theater or the Sintra, Queluz and Mafra National Palaces. Also noteworthy is the work done with national orchestras such as the Gulbenkian Orchestra or the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra.
