The sunny Vila Nova De Milfontes is an Alentejo gem crossed by the radiant river Mira. It is deliciously Portuguese, social, welcoming, with a good selection of restaurants and beaches for all tastes.
It is popular with Portuguese families and still not well regarded among foreign tourists. This is partly due to its location: halfway between Lisbon and Faro airports (2 hours by car). The Alentejo coast has hot summers, spring, and mild autumns.
The waters of the Mira River are the cleanest and calmest, ideal for kayaking or Stand Up Paddle (SUP). If you want to explore the region it is recommended that you use your vehicle or rent one to explore the region.
Near the parish there are fantastic beaches for surfing and equipment can be rented in the locality – be careful with strong currents and hidden rocks. It is a great place to explore the Costa Vicentina, as it resides in the heart of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and the Costa Vicentina.
