The Cape Verdean international kitesurfer, Airton Cozzolino, world champion in title, is in defense of the title representing Cape Verde in the first stage of the 2020 world championship that has been taking place since the 1st of March at Kite Beach, in Santa Maria, on the island of Sal.
According to the organization, a total of 53 athletes compete for the world title on the beaches of Kite Beach and Ponta Preta, events that take place for a week, under the auspices of Nautics Sports Events.
The first stage of this GKA Kite Surf World circuit, has the contest of 9 Cape Verdean athletes, of which eight are male, Airton Cozzolino, Matchu Lopes, Djô Silva, Arsénio Dias, Kelton Lopes, Titik Lopes and Elviz Nunes and two female athletes , namely Dianira Lopes and Irati Fonseca.
A total of 53 “riders” from different parts of the world, 30 male and 23 female, in wave and ‘free style’ styles are up for grabs.
The veteran world champion, Cape Verdean Mitú Monteio, is short of form, because he is injured.
