Capicua presents the video for “Danúbio” with Gisela João
Performs on Avenida dos Aliados during the April 25 celebrations
On the eve of April 25th, Capicua releases the video of the song “Danúbio” with the participation of Gisela João, a current and necessary song that warns of the dangers of the return of retrograde and oppressive ideas from the darkest years of the last century, which is part of the recent album Um Sorvete Antes do Fim do Mundo.
Alongside this launch, Capicua will perform today at the celebrations for the anniversary of the Carnation Revolution on Avenida dos Aliados, in Porto. On Saturday, April 26th, he will perform in Fafe, at Praça 25 de Abril.
“Danúbio” was born from a newspaper article. Three summers ago, drought struck central Europe and the waters of the Danube dropped so low that the carcasses of old Nazi ships, sunk on purpose during the Second World War to make the river unnavigable, came to the surface like ghosts of a history that threatens to repeat itself.
The photographs of those metallic, rusty and sinister monsters suggested the perfect image to talk about the resurgence of the extreme right, which is once again threatening old Europe. Those boats, still loaded with explosives, booby-trapped by hatred, returned to the surface ready to carry out the order and remind us that “we have the whole past ahead of us” if we let ourselves sink with them.
No one does not feel a scent of the thirties in the air and, in the deep and serious voice of Gisela João, the lyrics of “Danúbio” remind us that the present was wrapped in yesterday’s newspaper, in a chorus with Pedro Geraldes’ guitar that alludes to Fado and a mournful whistle that reminds us of a Portuguese “spaghetti western”.
At a time when the threatening clouds hanging over our heads are getting thicker and thicker, this fourth single from Um Gelado Antes do Fim do Mundo comes as a pinprick. It is time to refuse the seemingly repetitive inevitability of history, especially in the week in which we celebrate democracy and freedom.
After having premiered Um Gelado Antes do Fim do Mundo to full houses at the Teatro Tivoli BBVA and at Casa da Música in two unforgettable nights for the audience present, Capicua continues the tour of the new album around the country, which will pass through NOS Alive on July 11th, the Festival Músicas do Mundo on the 27th of the same month and the Festival Paredes de Coura on August 13th.
