The song “Um Milhão,” by Carlos Cavallini, stems from a creative exercise proposed by Luísa Sobral during a songwriting retreat conceived by the artist in January of this year. Each participant was tasked with composing a song inspired by the chronicle The Meeting, by António Lobo Antunes, looking at the narrated scene from different perspectives.
Carlos Cavallini had to write the song from the viewpoint of a person observing, through a window, the scene of a man waiting for someone.
“The proposal from Luísa to produce the song came up on the last day of the retreat, and I was on the verge of releasing my debut album. When I packed my bag for Alentejo, I never imagined coming back with the proposal to produce a single of a song that would be composed there, in half an hour over a weekend. But it was impossible to say no to Luísa Sobral when she told me she already had the arrangements in mind for us to record,” Carlos celebrates.
The recordings took place in June of this year at Vale de Lobos studio in Sintra and involved team members and musicians chosen by Luísa Sobral herself. The studio recordings were captured on video by Maria Bicker, and the single was released together with a music video. In addition to the launch of the single “Um Milhão,” September also marks the beginning of the promotional Tour for the album O Tamanho do Tempo on CD and vinyl, as part of the FNAC Sessions program, which will go through several stores in the country until the end of the year.
The debut album, O Tamanho do Tempo, was produced by Ricardo Dias Gomes and Domenico Lancellotti, who also collaborated as instrumentalists on all tracks. Additionally, it featured the participation of notable musicians such as Pedro Sá, João Erbetta, Davi Moraes, Aquiles Moraes, and Jonas Sá, who, together with the producers, arranged the songs for the project. Accordionist, singer, and songwriter Celina da Piedade enriched one of the tracks on this album, “O Que Me Faz Bem.” O Tamanho do Tempo is a dive into the richness of Brazilian music, reflecting a diversity of musical influences that includes Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, Cassiano, Azymuth, Adriana Calcanhotto, Céu, among many others.
