Carlos Mendes, author, composer, and singer of timeless songs such as “Festa da Vida,” “Amélia dos Olhos Doces,” “Ruas de Lisboa,” “Alcácer que Vier,” and “Siripipi de Benguela,” has recorded a total of 22 albums. In 2024, he celebrated sixty years of a career that has marked—and continues to mark—generations of Portuguese people.
Celebrating this remarkable journey, the Lusitanian label is releasing, under the label “The Mysterious Carlos Mendes,” a definitive collection of 60 songs that span the musical life of one of the greatest artists in Portuguese popular music.
From the group Sheiks, to the Festival da Canção, to the greatest hits that marked a unique career, this release invites the public to discover—and rediscover—Carlos Mendes as they’ve never heard him before.
All tracks were remastered and carefully curated by Nelson Canoa, ensuring a renewed sound experience faithful to the legacy of this true sound architect.
The album “Architect of Sounds – 60 Years of Songs” will be available on October 24th on CD and on all digital platforms.
Carlos Mendes has two wins at the Festival da Canção, respectively in 1968 with “Summer” and in 1972 with “Festa da Vida.”
In 1973, he completed his degree in Architecture and began working in that field, which he abandoned shortly thereafter to dedicate himself exclusively to music.
In 1976, he founded, along with other artists—including Paulo de Carvalho and Fernando Tordo—the first independent Portuguese record label, Toma Lá Disco.
He has participated, as a writer, in several television programs, having been responsible for the creation and presentation of the talk show Falas Tu ou Falo Eu, also standing out for his performance in lyrical singing, in which he has specialised as a singer and teacher.
