A book by Abel Soares da Rosa
Official presentation on November 29, at 6 pm
Auditorium of the Portuguese Society of Authors, in Lisbon.
Carlos Mendes, one of the great names of Portuguese popular music, celebrates in 2024 the six sixty years of artistic career. To celebrate this anniversary, the publisher Scarlet Bloom presents the book by Abel Soares da Rosa: Carlos Mendes – Architect of Sounds, 60 Years of Songs.
This book, in the form of a written “documentary“, is profusely illustrated, with photographs and memorabilia, and brings with it the stories, records and most striking moments of the artist’s career, from the Sheiks to the Song Festival, passing through the rhythmic not following the traditional format of a biography or photobiography.
Each chapter is dedicated to a phase or cycle of Carlos Mendes‘ artistic life, covering his discography, including solo works, collaborations, compilations, versions and even songs he composed for other artists.
Carlos Mendes is part of the country’s cultural heritage, with an impressive career spanning six decades. In the artist’s words: “And suddenly, as if it were a snap of fingers, 77 years of life and 60 songs passed.”

Carlos Mendes – Architect of Sounds, 60 Years of Songs is an illustrated journey, with the design and pagination of João (O Gajo) Morais, also a musician. The cover photo is by Jaime Serôdio.
The official presentation of the book will take place at 6 pm on 29 November, in the Auditorium of the Portuguese Society of Authors, in Lisbon.
