Carlos Nascimento and Salomé Afonso confirmed at the Tokyo Olympic Games
The presence of Carlos Nascimento and Salomé Afonso at the Tokyo Olympic Games was confirmed with the publication of the World Athletics qualification ranking, which ended on Wednesday.
Carlos Nascimento, in the 100 meters, and Salomé Afonso, in the 1500 meters, raise to 19 the athletes in this modality (13 by minimum and six according to the ranking) and to 92 the number of the Portuguese delegation.
National champion, the sprinter ranks 56th in the aforementioned hierarchy, which provided so many other places.
Trained by Rui Silva, Salomé Afonso was the great female revelation of the year. The 44th position in the ranking, which included 45, opened the doors of Olympus to the athlete from Sporting. In addition to Nascimento and Salomé, Marta Pen (1500 m), Tiago Pereira and Nélson Évora (triple) and Irina Rodrigues (disc) qualified by ranking.
