Carlos Paredes – a Guitarra de um povo

Commemorative book for the centenary of the birth of the musician and composer (1925/2025)

Official presentation – next February 12th, at 6 pm, Auditorium of the Portuguese Society of Authors, in Lisbon.

This book, Carlos Paredes – a Guitarra de um povo (The guitar of a people), by Octávio Fonseca, tells the story of the musical career of the great master of the Portuguese guitar, in the year that marks the centenary of his birth.

Octávio Fonseca, one of the greatest researchers of popular music made in Portugal, with works already published on José Mário Branco and José Afonso, evaluates and discusses the musical trajectory of Carlos Paredes, through his records, using reviews and interviews published in the press of the time.

In addition, some of the most relevant episodes of the musician and composer’s career are also recounted, without forgetting the texts he published in the press, with positions on music in our country.

The presentation is carried out chronologically, to provide a sequential perspective of Carlos Paredes’ artistic life, without, however, fragmenting it by areas of activity. The albums appear naturally, at the time they were released, framed within the various events of the artist’s musical career.

This edition of this book includes a double CD with an unreleased concert by Carlos Paredes, which took place on March 31, 1984, at the Carlos Alberto Theater, in Porto, with a completely packed room, and in which the musician enchanted the audience through his interventions, showing a great sense of humor. This is a very rare document in that, contrary to
As would normally happen, the artist presents the songs, one by one.

It is also worth noting that this book also includes the album “Meister Der Portugiesischen Gitarre” (“Master of the Portuguese Guitar”), an album recorded in February 1977 during the 7th Political Song Festival in Berlin, and released that same year through the German label AMIGA, from the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), completely unreleased in Portugal.

The book also includes three photographic portfolios by Augusto Cabrita, Inácio Ludgero and Luís Paulo Moura.

Always confirm with the concert hall or promoter the conditions of access, confirmation of the date or time, ticket place of sale, price, and availability.
