Carminho takes Portuguesa to CCB

Carminho is one of the greatest voices of Fado and one of the Portuguese artists with the greatest international recognition. Daughter of renowned fado singer Teresa Siqueira, she made her debut singing in public at the age of 12, at the Coliseu de Lisboa. Fado is her language and it’s a good thing that it is that way, for all of us, who never tire of seeing and hearing her!
His debut album – Fado – went platinum in Portugal and was considered the best album of 2011 by the British magazine Songlines. In 2012, he released Alma, which reached prominent positions on several international charts and conquered Brazil, with sold-out shows in Rio. January and throughout the country.
In 2013, Carminho established herself as one of the most international Portuguese artists, taking her voice to the four corners of the world. In Portugal, she was awarded a Golden Globe and the Carlos Paredes Prize, and her two albums reached double platinum status. At the end of 2014, he published Canto and his relationship with Brazil gained even deeper roots. In 2016, after an invitation from the family of one of the greatest composers in the world, she recorded Carminho Canta Tom Jobim and was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Performer. In 2019, Carminho returns with a new album of unreleased songs. Maria is the fifth of her career and the most personal of all time. It includes several songs of his authorship and he also signs the production.
In March 2023, he released his latest album – Portuguesa, the sixth of his career, with 14 songs that include lyrics written by him as well as compositions of new melodies for traditional fados. In a search to deepen her thinking about Fado, Carminho explores different combinations within the canons, rethinking the form and moving like a fish in its water. With this beautiful album, she embarks on an extensive tour of Europe, Brazil, the USA and Canada and is nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category of Best Portuguese Language Roots Album.
In the same year, he performed Estrela, an original composition of his own, for Pope Francis at World Youth Day (for an audience of 1.5 million people and 600 million viewers worldwide), and sang a version of “O Quarto“, accompanying himself on the Portuguese guitar, in the award-winning film Poor Things, by Yorgos Lanthimos, and interprets “Fado Coimbra” at a Coldplay concert in Portugal. She also takes part in the tour of the great Caetano Veloso, who wrote the duet “Você-Você” for Carminho.
It is this latest extraordinary album – Portuguesa – that continues to make history, which Carminho brings to the Há Fado no Cais cycle and to the Grand Auditorium do CCB, in partnership with the Museu do Fado.
