Workshops: the country’s Carnival traditions to experience inside museums

WOW museums offer a different way to celebrate Carnival. All the children can come dressed up. But, in addition, the cultural quarter offers workshops where you can learn more about the different Portuguese traditions regarding Carnival. Therefore, inspired by the Carnival of the Schist Villages, the Cork Museum will promote a workshop to create masks made from cork, of course. The ticket costs €22 and includes the visit to the museum plus participation in the activity.

At the Wine Museum, there will be a themed visit on the theme of the Podence Carnival. Taking advantage of the wine regions, where the traditions of the different regions are explored, the Wine Museum will create a different visiting dynamic, taking place from March 1st to 4th, in two daily sessions: at 11:30 am and 4 pm. The ticket costs €20. Children pay €9.

At the Chocolate Museum, children will have the opportunity to create and decorate their chocolate masks. An activity that invites you to get your hands dirty and at the end allows you to taste your mask. The price is €22 and includes the visit to the museum plus the workshop.

Carnival to celebrate at the table too

From March 1st to 4th, the T&C restaurant will have an adapted, plentiful and rich menu, as tradition dictates: feijoada à transmontana, sopa da pedra and cozido à portuguesa. These are traditional dishes with the magic of iron pots on the fire, so typical of Portuguese villages. Reservations can be made online.

During these days, Angel’s Share also offers a special menu, with themed cocktails: there is the Entrudo (€11), the Sapucaí (€12) and the Mardi Gras (€10), three signature cocktails that aim to convey the spirit of Carnival revelry. They can be tasted at the wine bar in the cultural quarter and reservations are not necessary.

Carnival Festival: two days of hot rhythms

For those who love good dancing and the vibrant energy of Brazilian rhythms, WOW proposes the Carnival Festival. On March 1st and 2nd, there will be live shows of samba, pagode, forró, axé, funk and Brazilian popular music. From three in the afternoon to three in the morning, there will be 12 hours of pure excitement every day. There is also a children’s area and an all-you-can-eat feijoada buffet from 6 pm to 11 pm. Tickets are available online.

Always confirm with the concert hall or promoter the conditions of access, confirmation of the date or time, ticket place of sale, price, and availability.
