Carolina Santos is the new Miss PRIO Cup! The young surfer from Caldas da Rainha, only 20 years old, made her debut this Friday, winning in competitions for the national women’s surfing circuit, triumphing in Costa Nova, where she overcame the strong competition present at the event. most feminine in Portuguese surfing.
After an opening day full of emotion, the day before, only eight surfers were left to compete on the final day, with the three former national champions and also former winners of this event, Carolina Mendes, Carina Duarte, and Camilla Kemp, positioning themselves as the main candidates for triumph.
However, the waves of Ílhavo offered, on the second day of action, a journey full of surprises. First of all, the elimination of Carolina Mendes and Carina Duarte in round 3, failing to reach the semi-finals. In the opposite direction, Maria Salgado, Beatriz Carvalho, and Carolina Santos were the representatives of the new generation of national female surfing to reach the decisive phase of the Miss PRIO Cup.
In the first semi-final, Carolina Santos started by winning a very balanced duel against Beatriz Carvalho, while Camilla Kemp triumphed safely against the youngest of the semi-finalists, the junior national runner-up Maria Salgado, thus finding the finalists in the Costa Nova.
In the final, favoritism seemed to be on the side of the experienced Camilla Kemp. However, Carolina Santos still had a lot of surf to show for and took the lead thanks to an excellent wave, which was awarded 9 points. In the last wave, Carolina increased the record and sealed the triumph with 15.20 points, against 13.05 for Kemp.
The Miss Prio Cup is a special event that scores for the women’s national ranking and takes place on the sidelines of the MEO Surf League, the main surfing competition in Portugal. It is an organization of the Aveiro Surfing Association, with the technical support of the Portuguese Surfing Federation and the National Surfers Association.
