Casa de Santar Wines Receives Double Platinum in the “Best Wines of Dão” Contest
Casa de Santar wines once again shone in this year’s “Best Wines of Dão – Bottled 2025” contest, promoted by the Dão Regional Wine Commission, winning six important awards: two Platinum, three Gold, and one Silver.
The two Platinum awards were awarded to wines from the most emblematic vineyard in Dão – the Amores vineyard – and are the Casa de Santar Vinha dos Amores Encruzado 2021 and Casa de Santar Vinha dos Amores Touriga Nacional 2019. The Casa de Santar Reserva Red 2020 and the two sparkling wines, Casa de Santar Vinha dos Amores Encruzado 2017 and Casa de Santar Vinha dos Amores Touriga Nacional 2017, also won Gold. Silver went to Casa de Santar Branco de Curtimenta 2023. Any of these wines can be found for sale at the best wineries and gourmet shops, as well as online.
“The Vinha dos Amores is where Casa de Santar’s most distinctive wines are born, as well as some of the most awarded in the region and the country. Therefore, we must continue to care for and preserve this emblematic and unique parcel. These awards are a source of great pride for the entire team, recognising the collaborative work that oenology and viticulture have developed over the years, perfecting techniques and selecting the best grapes to create wines of great authenticity that reflect the personality of the terroir from which they originate,” says commercial and marketing director Miguel Rodrigues.
This is the 16th edition of this competition, which recognises, year after year, the best wines produced in the unique terroirs of the Dão region. It’s worth noting that 173 wines from dozens of producers were competing, which were evaluated in blind tastings by a renowned panel of 30 tasters, including winemakers, sommeliers, specialist journalists, and other industry representatives.
The gala for the “Best Wines of Dão” competition, an event organised by the Dão Regional Wine Commission, took place a few days ago in Mangualde, attended by some of the region’s leading producers. The objective of this initiative is, above all, to position the Dão region as one that consistently presents high-quality wines with a distinct identity, reflecting the region’s essence and character.
