Casa do Alentejo inaugurates commemorative sculpture of 100 years on April 25
Casa do Alentejo inaugurates tomorrow, April 25th, at 10.30 am, the commemorative sculpture of its centenary, A Fountain of Friendship, by the Alentejo sculptor Jorge Pé-Curto. The work will be on display in the iconic Arab Páteo at Casa do Alentejo.
The inauguration ceremony features the performance of the Coral da Maia Group – Os Alentejanos, followed by interventions by the sculptor Jorge Pé-Curto and the president of Casa do Alentejo, João Proença.
Jorge Pé-Curto was born in 1955, in Moura, and as a plastic artist he developed activity in ceramics, painting, posters, and engraving, but it was fundamentally in stone that he came to center his work. For the author, “this sculpture enhances the affective current generated by Cante”.
João Monge, a friend of the artist, stresses that the sculpture marking the 100th anniversary of Casa do Alentejo “is a tribute to friendship and camaraderie” and shows that “this is how we resist. Our shoulders are shaped like the arms that rest on them.”
Casa do Alentejo celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2023. The centennial commemoration program has the High Sponsorship of His Excellency the President of the Republic and includes various cultural initiatives throughout the year. For the 10th of June, the date on which the foundation of the House is celebrated, a formal session is scheduled and, at the end of the year, a grand closing show entitled “The Alentejo is so great”.
Over these 100 years, Casa do Alentejo has established itself as the true embassy of Alentejo culture and tradition in the Lisbon region.
