Casino Estoril premieres “Bullets and Glitter – The B Side of Eurovision” at the Auditorium

The Estoril Casino Auditorium will premiere, on March 27th, from 9 pm, “Bullets and Glitter – The B Side of Eurovision”.

This is a show by Henrique Feist that proposes a journey through the history of the Festival, revealing to the public the other side of Eurovision. With musical direction by maestro Nuno Feist, the series of performances runs until May 3rd.

“As you know, once again, the world is at war. The saddest thing is that the world has always been at war. Among several stages ranging from sport to music, there is one that, since 1956, has helped to decipher, change, avenge, forgive, sting, feed Europe – the Eurovision stage. Generally speaking, ordinary people see Eurovision as a beautiful musical entertainment program, an embrace between peoples and cultures. And that. But… it’s much more”, says Henrique Feist.

“The Eurovision stage has always been decisive in the history of Europe itself. It was a stage where weapons were cleaned and scores were settled. Or where the future is predicted. Eurovision itself before the fall of the Berlin Wall was one thing. After the fall of the wall, with the introduction of Eastern Europe into the event, it became another. No victory was for nothing. Behind every glitter, every sequin, there is always a candy.”

“An Irish singer threatened with death by the IRA if she competed…the massacre at the Munich Olympic Games and Israel’s victory the following year…Italy’s victory with the song “Insieme Unite Europe” in the early ’90s… Eduardo Nascimento’s song “O Vento Mudou” was a political move by Salazar to show Europe that he was not racist… The Franco regime ordered Spain’s victory in the 60s…Eastern countries that arrested civilians for voting in Western countries…Spanish countries that interrupted the broadcast when the victory of another country with whom they were in conflict was announced…there are so many, so many stories that only illustrate the POLITICAL stage that Eurovision is and will always be. Just look, to put it more simply, at the time of voting…who votes for whom. However, there were exceptions… and clear ones. Where only music, only melody in its simplicity and beauty triumphed. Where nothing else mattered. Where Europe only allowed musical notes to be heard. Salvador Sobral is a clear example of this.”

“The show has a moral message – the constant search for peace. And how unity between peoples must always be our stimulus. And culture should always unite people. Peace”, concludes Henrique Feist.
