The event combines history with the best music and national cuisine
The Black and Silver Room at Casino Estoril will host, on the 4th and 5th of November, the 1st edition of the Estoril Folk Fest.
Some of the most representative names in Portuguese music of traditional origin will be on stage, such as Galandum Galundaina, Ana Laíns with Ricardo Dias, Monda, Daniel Pereira Cristo, Pauliteiros de Miranda and Grupo de Cantares de Évora.
In addition to the music, the Estoril Folk Fest will also feature other attractions, such as an exhibition on the history of Almourol Castle, as the Festival aims to be an event that will transport Portugal and its history to the Salão Preto and Prata, without a doubt one of the most charismatic spaces in our country.
Visitors to Casino Estoril will also have at their disposal a menu with the best traditional cuisine from different regions from north to south of the country, as well as the presentation and tasting of Callum de Oleiros Wines, Beira Baixa, which represent the gastronomic heritage of Beirão.
Estoril Folk Fest is an unusual idea produced by Mátria Mundi, a company recently created by singer Ana Laíns and musician Paulo Loureiro, and arises from the challenge launched to the singer by Casino Estoril, after the success of the concert to celebrate 20 years of the career of the artist, who brought some of the most significant national ethnographies to Salão Preto e Prata, with undeniable success.
In this way, in this new Festival, universes apparently as distant as the urban and glamorous environment that surrounds Casino Estoril, and the rurality of traditional Portuguese forms of expression, which define the multiple cultural identities of our country, and have been asserting themselves in main music festivals in the world, both in Portugal and abroad.
A special highlight in the program for the show on November 5th by Ana Laíns with the pianist Ricardo Dias, in an absolute debut at the Estoril Folk Fest, in what will be a tribute concert to the musician and his preponderant role in mythical albums of Portuguese Popular Music, such as “Traz-os-Montes” by Né Ladeiras, “Danças e Folias” by Brigada Vitor Jara, or “Abril” by Cristina Branco.
November 4th, from 6:30 pm
The Northeast of Trás-os-Montes is the region that characterizes the work of one of the most emblematic bands of Traditional Portuguese Music. The concert on November 4th will be a complete journey through the Lands of Miranda and its ethnographies.
Daniel Pereira Cristo
The traditional chordophones and the voice of Daniel Pereira Cristo are heard as a trio in this concert that takes place on the stage of the Estoril Folk Fest on the 4th of November. Awarded the Carlos Paredes prize in 2018, the musician who leaves Minho for the entire country will prove to us once again why this is one of the great confirmations of recent years at MPP.
Pauliteiros de Miranda
It is magical and deeply meaningful to have the presence of one of the most cherished ethnographic expressions in our country. Working on their candidacy for Intangible Heritage of Humanity, the Pauliteiros de Miranda (Fonte de Aldeia) are the big hit in the pond of this 1st edition of the Estoril Folk Fest. A unique opportunity to see the deep roots of NordesteTransmontano on stage.
November 5th, from 4 pm
Ana Laíns invites Ricardo Dias
Ana Laíns performs on stage accompanied by pianist Ricardo Dias, in what will be a tribute concert to the musician and his preponderant role in mythical albums of Portuguese Popular Music, such as “Traz-os-Montes” by Né Ladeiras, “Danças e Folias” by Brigada Vitor Jara, or “Abril” by Cristina Branco.
If the “sea left the Alentejo” from where it “brought songs of gold”, the merchants of these roots are clearly Jorge Roque, Pedro Zagalo, and Herlander Medinas, aligned in the Monda collective. Live, much more than the celebration of Cante Alentejano, MONDA becomes a genuine, bright, and exciting party, which deeply sings the roots of an entire country.
Évora Singing Group
Worthy representatives of Cante, an expression that has been Intangible Heritage of Humanity since 2014, the Grupo de Cantares de Évora and the power of its extraordinary singers, will step onto the stage of the Salão Preto e Prata on the 5th of November.
