Casino Estoril continues a cycle of fado shows, which will be staged by different performers, every Sunday, until the end of August, at Lounge D. António Pinto Basto performs on the 23rd, while Matilde Cid takes the stage at August 30th.

Gustavo – August 16

Born in Lisbon in 1990, Gustavo began to arouse interest in music from a very young age. When he was only 7 years old, he started piano lessons and at the age of 9, he was invited to represent Colégio Príncipe Carlos and Princesa Ana on a CD alluding to the institution’s 50 years. With his entry into Colégio Militar at the age of 10, he joined Orfeão de Alunos where he had numerous shows in which he participated, playing piano, organ, classical guitar and singing.

Gustavo revealed to be a fado singer, following in the footsteps of his father, António Pinto Basto, performing for the first time in public at the age of 15 in a fado house in Lisbon.

Since then, he has participated in countless shows with great voices of fado, such as Rodrigo, Vicente da Câmara, José da Câmara, Maria João Quadros, Teresa Tapadas and, of course, his own father.

António Pinto Basto – August 23

António Pinto Basto‘s career took on a professional nature in the seventies, starring in numerous shows across the country. But it was only in 1988 that he edited his first album, entitled “Rosa Branca”. In 1989, he launched “Maria”, repeating the sales success. This was followed by “Confidências à Guitarra” in 1991, “Os Grandes Sucessos by António Pinto Basto” in 1993, and “Desde o Berço” in 1996.

In 2000, he joined the group “Land of Fado” and started as a presenter of the television program “Fados de Portugal”, on RTP. Subsequently, he launched the project “Quatro Cantos” with Maria Armanda, Teresa Tapadas and José da Câmara. With a revivalist profile, the group immediately distinguished itself by interpreting great successes in the history of Fado, which have already been recorded on CDs and DVDs: “5 Decadas de Fado” and “Do Presente ao Passado no Fado”.

Matilde Cid – August 30

She was born in Estremoz and grew up in a family linked to music. Family evenings were spent playing the viola, piano and singing. Her father was a fan of jazz, blues and bossa-nova, the mother of fado and it was through her mother that fado became his favorite song. She started singing in the cafés of Estremoz and, later, in Évora, simultaneously with her university career.

Later, she went to Lisbon where found the true essence of fado in the bohemian atmosphere of the capital’s fado houses. Maria João Quadros invited her to join the resident cast of “Casa da Mariquinhas”, in Alcântara.

In November 2014, João Braga invited her to participate in a concert, where he presented her as one of the brand new voices of fado. With a sweet and melodious voice, Matilde Cid interprets the Lisbon song in a very particular way. “PURO”, the debut album was released in September 2019.

The fado cycle continues in Lounge D of Casino Estoril, on Sundays, from 6 pm, until the end of August. Admission is free.
