Castelo Branco hosts the Honey Fair and the 19th Beekeeping Forum

Castelo Branco will host, from November 16 to 18, the largest national event dedicated to the beekeeping sector, with the simultaneous realization of the 19th edition.

Different themes will be addressed, such as the impact of climate change on Portuguese beekeeping, forest fires and their impact on native bee flora, or the importance of family beekeeping in the regional economy.

The XVII Honey Fair, this year is specially dedicated to quality products, aiming to show and boost the creativity and ingenuity of companies and the industry dedicated to the beekeeping world. Through the presence of the nine Denominations of National Honey Protected Origin and the honey of organic production mode, this Fair will be a space for presentation, dissemination of the best practices, products and projects that have been emerging in the field of national and international beekeeping.

In both events, there will be dedicated training, beekeeping talks where the topics most relevant to the development of the national apiculture sector will be discussed, with the participation of several beekeepers, managers, technicians and researchers, who will seek to find and define the future paths of the apicultural activity, in favour of its valorization and the rural territories of Portugal.

Both events are essential and extremely relevant, considering that the national beekeeping sector currently has a growth and professionalization momentum never before achieved.

Castelo Branco, through the investment made by the Municipal Council, as is the case of the Meleira Central, is being affirmed as one of the main poles of production and transformation of honey in Portugal, proof of this is the recent attribution to a local producer of the premium of the best rosemary honey produced in the Iberian Peninsula.

The inauguration of the 17th National Honey Fair will take place on November 16, at 6:00 p.m., in the parking lot José Bento at Sr. da Piedade, with the presence of the Exmo. Mr Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, Luís Medeiros Vieira.

The Solemn Opening Session of the XIX National Beekeeping Forum will be held on November 17, at 9:00 am, at the Cine-Teatro Avenida de Castelo Branco, with the presence of Joaquim Barreto, President of the Agriculture and Sea Committee of the Assembly of the Republic.
