Training sessions run from October 22nd to December 4th and participation is free.
For the second consecutive year, Bordado de Guimarães will meet new hands and perspectives through training promoted by CEARTE – Professional Training Center for Crafts and Heritage, in partnership with A Oficina. The training sessions take place at Casa da Memória de Guimarães between October 22nd and December 4th, on Fridays after working hours and on Saturdays during the day. Participation is free.
An integral part of the cooperative’s genesis and mission A Oficina, the preservation and promotion of Bordado de Guimarães continues to be cared for and valued, being a certified asset of the city of Guimarães since 2010. As a way of keeping alive the knowledge about this particular form of embroidery, A Oficina and CEARTE – Professional Training Center for Crafts and Heritage will promote training on this topic. Knowing the drawing techniques, the raw materials and the tools used, such as the embroidery frame, as well as the various types of stitches are some of the components of this training.
Under the guidance of Maria do Sameiro Machado Fernandes, the sessions will take place at Casa da Memória de Guimarães between October 22 and December 4, from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Fridays and from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm on Saturdays. Entries are free and can be made until October 11th.
Bordado de Guimarães, which had its certification made official in 2010, has changed over time and is covered with a set of very specific characteristics that guarantee it uniqueness. Its six colors (red, blue, beige, grey, white and black), used in isolation, the reproduction of stylized motifs and the use of twenty-one dots make it unique. This form of traditional art from Guimarães can be found permanently at Loja Oficina, on Rua Rainha D. Maria II, and online at Loja.aoficina.pt, a place where handicraft is strongly represented by a variety of Guimarães Embroidery products, such as handkerchiefs, towels, napkins, coasters, aromatic bags, among other creative versions of this certified traditional craft from Guimarães.
As the Promoting Entity of Guimarães Embroidery Certification, Oficina has, over the years, fulfilled the responsibility of monitoring the work with artisans who adhered to the Certification standards, as well as carrying out the necessary promotion work to captivate new producers, through workshops, ateliers, awareness actions and training for the general public.
