Célia Leiria at Casino Estoril to celebrate Amália’s birth

Cycle "Fados de Amália no Casino Estoril"

In the second of three shows, the fado singer Célia Leiria, gave voice to the fados of Amália Rodrigues in the cycle “Fados de Amália no Casino Estoril”, in the celebrations of the 100 years of the birth of the “voice of Portugal

The natural singer of Santarém, started the night with the fado “Amália” and “Não sei porque te foste embora”, and soon captivated the audience, Célia Leiria, a voice lots of credits in fado, was born in a family with a “fadista” tradition in Ribatejo, and at the age of 14 she took the first steps in singing Fado.

It was on the “Quartas de Fado” nights at Casino do Estoril in 2001, invited by Carlos Zel, one of the biggest names in fado, the starting point for a national and international career with performances in Luxembourg, Spain, Germany, France, Hungary and the United States, among others.

The end of the afternoon, continued, with more fado songs sung by Amália, “Tudo isto é fado”, “Coimbra”, “Triste Sina” and “Nem às paredes confesso”, themes immortalized by Amália, whit interpretations that left the audience of Lounge D surrendered.

Saudades do Brasil”, “Nome de Rua”, “Amêndoa amarga” and “Meu amor é marinheiro”, fados that everyone knows, the fado singer was accompanied by the audience who sang in chorus with Célia Leiria, and with the concert arriving at the end, it was with “Ai Maria”, “Sou filha das Ervas” and “Marcha dos Centenários” that the afternoon of fado ended at the Casino.

Today’s concert by Joana Amendoeira, at 6 pm in the Lounge D of Casino Estoril, ends this cycle of homage to Amália Rodrigues.
