Central Tejo reopens with an exhibition of 138 works and energy heritage

The reopening to the public of the historic building, part of the museum complex of the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT) of the Foundation, which opened on April 5, will happen one day after the presentation of a special program for the beginning of the season.

On Friday, between 2 pm and 8 pm, a round table will take place with curators Aric Chen, Martina Muzi, and Angela Rui, in conversation with Marcus Fairs, a digital performance by Ibiye Camp, a talks with Armin Linke about the film “Oceanarium”, commissioned for the exhibition “Aquaria”, shown at MAAT, and another ‘performance’ of data on “climatic sonification”.

On the same day, another round table will take place with the designers Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli (2050+), Claude Marzotto and Maia Sambonet (Óbelo studio), Daniel Zamarbide (Bureau) and Joana Pestana & Max Ryan, with moderation by the curator and critic of art Julia Albani.

There will also be a conversation between artist Alice dos Reis and architect Paulo Moreira with the critic and design curator Frederico Duarte, followed by a live performance by Kid Robinn + Cii James, with sounds from the neighborhood of Jamaica.

At Central Tejo, the new exhibitions are “Ensaio para uma Comunidade”, with 138 works by 58 artists spanning an 80-year period, spanning several generations, all from the EDP Foundation’s Portuguese Art Collection, curated by artist Paulo Mendes, covering its entire temporal arc, from 1942 to the present.

The other new exhibition is entitled “Storytellers”, and was conceived by the architecture historian and curator Joaquim Moreno, and brings together, for the first time, several archival pieces, namely visual objects, instruments and devices from the Energy Heritage Collection of EDP ​​Foundation.

The Friday program takes place live on MAAT, and will be broadcast through the social network channel YouTube and the museum’s Facebook page, and the ticket for this event also enters the museum on the weekend of April 24 and 25, for both buildings.
