14th Sophia Awards Ceremony at Casino Estoril

Next Sunday, April 27th

Casino Estoril will host, next Sunday, April 27th, starting at 7:30 pm, the ceremony of the 14th edition of the Sophia Awards, an initiative of the Portuguese Cinema Academy.

The annual celebration of Portuguese cinema takes place at the Salão Preto e Prata, where the best talents of the national film industry will be honoured.

The winners of the Sophia Awards in their 26 categories will be announced at this highly anticipated ceremony, under the motto “Cinema is Passion”, which will be broadcast live on RTP2.

The feature film “Grand Tour”, directed by Miguel Gomes, stands out with 11 nominations, followed by “O Pior Homem de Londres”, by Rodrigo Areias, and “Revolução (sem) Sangue”, by Rui Pedro Rosa, both with 10. In turn, the film “UBU”, by Paulo Abreu, has seven, “A Flor do Buriti”, by Renée Nader Messora and João Salaviza, six, and “A Semente do Mal”, by Gabriel Abrantes, five nominations.

The nominees for Best Actress are Anabela Moreira in “A Semente do Mal”, Crista Alfaiate in “Grand Tour”, Rita Cabaço in “O Vento Assobiando nas Gruas” and Sandra Faleiro in “Estamos no Ar”. 

In turn, Albano Jerónimo’s “O Pior Homem de Londres,” Gonçalo Waddington’s “Grand Tour,” João Pedro Vaz’s “Os Papéis do Inglês”, and Rafael Morais’s “Um Café e um Par de Sapatos Novos” are nominated for Best Leading Actor.

The RTP series “Irreversível”, by Bruno Gascon, “Matilha”, by João Maia, “O Americano”, by Ivo M. Ferreira, and “Sempre”, by Manuel Pureza are nominated for best Series/Telefilm.

Nominated for Best Animated Short Film are “A Rapariga de Olhos Grandes e o Rapaz de Pernas Compridas”, by Maria Hespanhol, “Amanhã Não Dão Chuva”, by Maria Trigo Teixeira, “Percebes”, by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, and “Pietra”, by Cynthia Levitan.

More than a celebration ceremony, the Sophia Awards are a true tribute to cinematic art and its creators. They promote national culture and project Portuguese cinema into the world.

7:30 pm – Arrival of guests, red carpet and interviews in the panoramic foyer of the Black and Silver Room
8:00 pm – Cocktail in the panoramic foyer of the Black and Silver Hall
9:00 pm – Entrance to the Black and Silver Hall
9:30 pm – Start of the Sophia Awards Ceremony / Recording by RTP2
11:30 pm – Closing
