Chassol at the Teatro da Trindade INATEL

French composer and pianist Christophe Chassol was at the Teatro da Trindade INATEL, on the 27th of October, presenting his latest work, accompanied by Mathieu Edward on the drums.

His curriculum is rich in collaborations, but he stands out for his work with a very specific technique: the “ultrascore”. His initial ambition was to write for the cinema, combining sound and image to produce music for films by Jerry Goldsmith, Michel Magne or Quincy Jones, among others. In the mid-90s, Chassol practically disappeared, plunged into the world of film production, and, for 15 years, composed for the big screen, for television, and for advertising.

Between producing jingles for advertising, Chassol found time to become a conductor between 1994 and 2002 and later discovered the world of pop music when he accompanied Sebastien Tellier and the Phoenix in Politics (2004).

One of the consequences of these musical exchanges is the duality that they create between the avant-garde and personal ambition. Disciple, this Parisian likes to move away from the most expected paths as can be seen in “Nola Chérie“, his first film, which talked about the capital of live music. It was there that he filmed and recorded sounds and music: schools on parade, amateur and professional musicians, poets … An ode to the city that has become, as he says, a “fanfharmonização“.

The concert at the Teatro da Trindade INATEL started around 9 pm, with Chassol on the piano and keyboards and Mathieu Edward on the drums. It was an excellent concert that united music and video creating an artistic composition full of passion and talent. We can hear, and see, themes like “Music Is God My Love”, “Savana, Céline, Aya, Pt.1”, “Reich & Darwin” and “Odissi, Part III”.
