Chico da Tina releases Playboy Matos, a 6-track EP celebrating the centenary of Tony de Matos’ birth. This project is a tribute to the legendary romantic fado and ballad performer, reinterpreting his spirit in a contemporary and bold register.
With the released singles «Romantic» and «Correct», Playboy Matos plunges into dark and innovative territories. His sound is marked by synths and obscure songs, where the use of guttural scream “jumps out” all the time – an unusual approach within trap and hip hop in general.
Among the new tracks, there is a collaboration with the emerging Brazilian artist Rudies Flacko, which promises to create bridges between the Portuguese tradition and international influences, and a jerk – «Step by Step» – where the rapper from Viana offers us his usual comic punchlines and his peculiar ostentation (aka flex): “I’m with the elderly playing at the mesh/ giving in the pinga”.
Chico da Tina thus reaffirms its place at the forefront of national music with this unique tribute. «Playboy Matos» is now available on all digital platforms.
