Claquete – Film Cycle at Atmosfera M

• Sessions take place every Thursday, from September 4th to October 16th.

Montepio Mutualist Association returns with the 4th edition of the Claquete – Film Cycle project, designed to reinforce its commitment to culture and access to art.

Starting on September 4th and running until October 16th, the film cycle sessions will take place on Thursdays at 6:30 pm at the Atmosfera M venue in Lisbon. Admission is free, with pre-registration required.

The sessions in this cycle will feature French and English directors, including Laurent Cantet, Aleem Kahn, Quentin Dupieux, Sally Potter, Xavier Beauvois, and Ken Loach.

Claquete – Cinema Cycle at the atmosphere m has been exploring different genres and narratives in the relaxed and welcoming environment of the m space. This is the second season of 2025, with the first dedicated to gastronomy films.

• September 4 | Arthur Rambo (France, 2021), by Laurent Cantet, with Rabah Nait Oufella, Antonine Reinartz, Sofian Khammes, Anaël Snoek.Synopsis: Life seems to be on Karim D’s side, a young writer who became a celebrity after the success of his latest work, until someone discovers that, some time before, he had shared anti-Semitic and homophobic content on Twitter under the pseudonym Arthur Rambo. Suddenly, Karim finds himself ostracized by his friends and hated by the public, who turn him into a sort of scapegoat for all the world’s misfortunes. Inspired by a true story, a dramatic film about the fleeting nature of fame and the dangers of social media.

• September 11 | After Love (UK, 2020), by Aleem Kahn, starring Talid Ariss, Nathalie Richard, Joanna ScanlanSynopsis: Mary’s husband, Ahmed, died unexpectedly. While going through his belongings shortly after the funeral, Mary realises he had been having a long-term relationship with Genevieve, a French woman. Devastated but determined to learn every detail, Mary leaves the British city of Dover, where she has always lived, and crosses the English Channel towards Calais. As soon as she arrives at Genevieve’s door, she is mistaken for the new cleaning lady. Surprised, she decides to take advantage of the circumstances to meet her husband’s clandestine family, who are still unaware of his death. Presented at the Critics’ Week of the Cannes Film Festival and the London Film Festival, this dramatic story directed and written by Aleem Khan makes its feature film debut. “After Love” received four BAFTA nominations, with Joanna Scanlon winning the award for Best Actress.
• September 18 | Yannick (France, 2023), by Quentin Dupieux, starring Sébastien Chassagne, Blanche Gardin, Raphaël Quenard, and Pio MarmaïSynopsis: It all begins during the performance of the play “The Cuckold,” staged at the Bouffes Parisiens. As three actors struggle to hold the attention of a nearly empty audience, they are interrupted by Yannick, who tells them the play is so bad it won’t let him forget his real problems and that, to be there, he had to take a day off, travel 45 minutes from the suburbs to Paris, and then walk another 15 minutes. A thankless effort, he says…

• September 25 | The Party (UK, Denmark, 2017), by Sally Potter, starring Emily Mortimer, Cherry Jones, Patricia Clarkson, Bruno GanzSynopsis: To celebrate her new position as “shadow minister” of health for the opposition party, Janet decides to throw a party at her house with a group of close friends. The guests arrive, overjoyed with the good news. But what promised to be a pleasant gathering takes a turn when Bill, Janet’s husband, decides to make an unexpected announcement. Shocked by what they’ve just learned, hosts and guests begin
  a series of revelations that turn the evening into a veritable nightmare…
• October 9 | Albatros (France, Belgium, 2021), by Xavier Beauvois, starring Victor Belmondo, Jérémie Renier, Madeleine Beauvois, Marie-Julie MailleSynopsis: Laurent, a police brigade commander in the coastal village of Étretat, Normandy, is about to marry Marie, with whom he has a young daughter. His life in that place marked by poverty and social inequality is not easy, but relatively peaceful. One day, while trying to prevent a farmer from committing suicide, Laurent accidentally shoots him. Selected to compete at the Berlin Film Festival, a dramatic film about guilt and the need for redemption, directed by Xavier Beauvois.
• October 16 | I, Daniel Blake (UK, France, Belgium, 2016), by Ken Loach, with Dave Johns, Sharon Percy, Hayley SquiresSynopsis: Diagnosed with a serious heart condition, Daniel Blake, a 59-year-old widower, is medically advised to stop working. When he tries to receive state benefits as a means of subsistence, he finds himself entangled in unfair and embarrassing bureaucracy. Despite his efforts to find a way to prove his disability, no one seems interested in admitting it. While waiting at a social security office, he meets Katie, a single mother of two children in urgent need of help, who recently moved to Newcastle. Daniel and Katie, two strangers whose twists and turns have left them without a means of support, find themselves forced to accept help from the food bank. And it is in the midst of their desperation that they become each other’s only hope. The Palme d’Or winner at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival is directed by acclaimed director Ken Loach and written by Paul Laverty.
