Clara Andermatt brings Pantera to TMJB

This post is also available in: Português (Portuguese (Portugal))

Companhia Clara Andermatt comes to TMJB with a posthumous tribute show to the Cape Verdean musician Pantera. The show will be on stage at TMJB on the 28th of May at 9 pm.

Born Orlando Barreto, on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, in 1967, the musician known as Pantera died at age 33 without recording an album. He was a singer, songwriter, lyricist and multi-instrumentalist and, in recent years, has also begun to sing in public. Those who knew him to remember “his generosity, donating his compositions for others to sing, his genuine relationship with music”. His legacy lives on, not only through the countless video graphics, photographic, photographic and written records but especially through the younger musicians who continue to interpret his compositions and be influenced by his work. Twenty years after his death, his daughter, Darlene Barreto, who was only six years old when her father died, challenged choreographer Clara Andermatt and musician João Lucas, two artists with deep connections to Cape Verde, to create a show of tribute to Orlando Pantera. The singer Mayra Andrade is an accomplice in this adventure.

A very characteristic aspect of Pantera’s personality is the side of him that is so genuine and so raw; a great simplicity, a clarity, an emotion, a joyful freedom, a pain on the surface, a deep interiority, a permanent delicacy in its authenticity”, explain the creators of this new creation. Here, it’s not just about reinterpreting the songs or illustrating them through dance. It is more of an appropriation. To explore and experience the sounds and words that Pantera left us to then create something new, but which, at the same time, brings us closer to him, his work and his vision of the world.
