Cláudia Pascoal provides the vocals for the new opening theme for “The Man Who Bit the Dog”

At the invitation of Nuno Markl

A “seasonal” friendship and a love for “doing stupid things” are at the root of the new sonic identity of Rádio Comercial’s iconic program.

Cláudia Pascoal, one of the most distinctive voices in new Portuguese music, is the creator of the new opening theme for Rádio Comercial’s program “The Man Who Bit the Dog.” The theme, as quirky and irreverent as the program itself, was born from an unlikely friendship and a shared love for “doing stupid things,” as the artist herself confessed.

The opportunity arose from an invitation from comedian Nuno Markl, with whom Cláudia shares a unique friendship that she describes as “seasonal“: “Our friendship is like a panettone. It’s seasonal, I’m happy to see it on the table, but a little piece is enough for the whole year. In short, it’s not chocolate mousse, but it’s very good,” the artist joked.

The result is a unique jingle that combines Claudia’s musical sensibility with the show’s signature humour. Blending elements of traditional Portuguese music with a modern twist, the artist delivered a lighthearted and catchy piece that fits perfectly into one of Portugal’s most beloved radio segments.

The artistic partnership stems from a shared love of the series Rick and Morty. Markl then invited her to sing “Goodbye Moonmen,” the series’ theme song, live, in a moment that the comedian himself recalls as “very beautiful.” Later, Markl ended up participating in Cláudia’s first album, performing a solo on the final track. Now, the invitation has been reversed: Nuno Markl called Cláudia to create the sonic identity for the popular morning show.

Regarding the creative process, Cláudia Pascoal explains, with her usual dose of humour, that the song was constructed from a beat that includes elements as varied as a bass drum, triangle, ukulele, dog barks, and Markl’s own exclamation “well… ahh!” The chorus, composed by the repetition of the word “dog,” was the ingenious and uncomplicated solution she found: “I thought: it has to be something very clever… It has to be something no one would ever remember. Like a dog.”
