“Imperial é Fino” is the song that brings together Ana Bacalhau and Cláudia Pascoal. Now available on all digital platforms, this is a song that celebrates the rich cultural diversity of Portugal in a relaxed and fun way.
The song plays with the linguistic differences and regional expressions that characterize the country from North to South, highlighting the “healthy rivalries” between the regions. With the original and humorous lyrics by Capicua, the song captures the pride that Portuguese people feel for the peculiarities of their language and culture. The music video for the song was directed by André Tentúgal.
Inspired by the classic “Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off,” which addresses differences between British and American English, “Imperial é Fino” takes an ironic and humorous look at Portuguese regionalisms, bringing to light popular debates such as “ténis” versus “sapatilhas” or “imperial” versus “fino.”
“The idea of this duo has been resonating since the first joke made with our names. I am very happy to create something alongside an artist I admire so much, who radiates the same energy as the music we made! I am from the North, Bacalhau is from the capital, but we pair perfectly in the same universe, the passion for making songs,” says Cláudia Pascoal, co-producer and one of the voices of this song.
Ana Bacalhau, with her unmistakable voice and musical sensitivity, brings to life a song that celebrates these differences in a light and captivating way.
“I have long wanted to talk about this richness of regionalisms and accents in our country and I have long wanted to do a duet with Cláudia Pascoal. ‘Imperial é Fino’ finally brought us together, alongside João Só and Capicua. From this team that is also multi-regional (we have Coimbra, Porto, Arco de Baúlhe, and Lisbon), a song was born that plays with the healthy linguistic teasing between the North and the South, while getting us to dance together. I say imperial, Cláudia says fino, and we all say that our accent is perfect (because it is),” added Ana Bacalhau.
In addition to Cláudia Pascoal, the production was also handled by João Só, who elevated this song to another level and included the collaboration of talented musicians who, with vibrant arrangements and a contagious rhythm, brought the festive and plural spirit that the music proposes.
This song follows Cláudia’s last release, “Três É Demais,” which featured collaborations with Mike El Nite and Rebeca and marked the Santos Populares of 2024 and summer pilgrimages. In addition to this release, the artist has toured some of the biggest stages from North to South of the country presenting her latest studio project “!!” and bringing along all her creativity, energy, and irreverence, showing the reasons she is considered one of the main ambassadors of traditional Portuguese culture in the national music industry.
“Imperial é Fino” is already available on all digital platforms and promises to resonate among fans and admirers of music made in the language of Camões, as an anthem of unity through the celebration of our differences.
