The Group of Ethnography and Folklore of the Academy of Coimbra (GEFAC) was distinguished at the European Cultural Heritage Awards Europa Nostra, in the category of “Service Dedicated to Heritage”.
The European jury, in this category, also gave a Special Mention to the former chairman of the board of directors of Parques de Sintra-Monte da Lua António Lamas, announced the National Culture Center (CNC), Portuguese representative in the non-governmental organization Europa Nostra, which promotes the awards.
The announcement of the winners of the Europa Nostra 2021 Awards was made online and was attended by the European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, and the Executive President of Europe Nostra, Hermann Parzinger.
In the same category, the Gjirokastra Foundation, from Albania, the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, from Cyprus, and the Italian Rita Bargna, born in 1942, who lived and works in Cantù, also learned the art of lace from her mother. at the age of 5 and then cultivated a passion for this discipline for more than six decades.
In this category, a Special Mention was decided for António Lamas, former director-general of the Portuguese Institute of Cultural Heritage.
In the fall, the big winners in each category are known, with a prize of 10,000 euros and the Public Choice Award.
