Colégio do Porto advances to the national finals of the “F1 in schools” challenge

Clip returns to the most important science, technology, engineering and mathematics competition in the world

Last Thursday, Team Aeroflux, made up of 5 F11 and F12 students, and Team G4 Motorsport, with 6 F10 students, were guaranteed access to the national final of F1 Nas Escolas, in Penafiel, nine years after having achieved the same feat, competing with 17 other teams from the region.

The objective was to guarantee passage to the national phase of the competition, which is only awarded to the three best teams in each region, with the G4 Motorsport team securing 3rd place, while the Aeroflux team brought home 2nd place, in addition to the Best Engineering and Best Verbal Presentation.

F1 In Schools is not just a question of speed, with the creativity, engineering and business acumen of participants aged between 11 and 19 also being assessed.

Students design and manufacture miniature Formula 1 cars, pushing the limits of aerodynamics and materials science, and are then put to the test on a 20-meter track, where every fraction of a second counts.

Beyond the race track, teams must also develop a comprehensive business plan, demonstrating their marketing strategies, budgeting skills and sponsorship acquisition capabilities. This aspect of the competition promotes entrepreneurship and real-world problem-solving, preparing the next generation of leaders for success in an ever-evolving global economy.

With regional and national competitions leading to the World Finals, F1 In Schools is a platform for young talent to shine at an international level. Winners not only achieve prestigious degrees, they also earn scholarships, internships and invaluable industry connections, propelling them into exciting careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The organization of the tournament is an initiative of the Technological Support Center for the Metalworking Industry and the national finals are scheduled for July 3, with the three best teams guaranteeing access to the World Finals.

It is also worth remembering that, last year, the World Finals were held in Singapore, from September 10th to 12th.
