The COLINA DAS ARTES occurs between 6th and 14th September in various spaces of the parish of São Vicente. The initiative offers a free music, theatre, and cinema programme.
The 3rd edition of the COLINA DAS ARTES takes place between 6th and 14th September in various spaces in the parish of São Vicente. The initiative features a completely free programme that promotes the public’s contact with multiple forms of artistic expression.
The programme is open to all and includes visual arts, Portuguese music (jazz, fado, and pop), cinema, literature, theatre, and events for the whole family. This year’s edition has the most extensive programme yet, spread across various spaces in the neighbourhoods of Graça and São Vicente de Fora, two of the most iconic areas in the city of Lisbon.
Highlights include concerts by Sara Correia at the Patriarchate of Lisbon (11th September), and Sérgio Godinho and Gisela João both at the Cloisters of the Convent of Graça (13th and 14th September, respectively).
The Sophia de Mello Breyner viewpoint will host performances by the combos of the Hot Club of Portugal (13th and 14th September) and a concluding party with Pedro da Linha (14th September).
The Secret Garden, one of the city’s most exclusive secrets, located next to the Senhora do Monte viewpoint, has developed a special programme from the 6th to the 14th of September, which will be announced very soon.
THE COLINA DAS ARTES also includes a day of children’s cinema with the Inflatable Cinema in Largo da Graça (14th of September), with the film schedule set to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
Regarding the visual arts, an exhibition entitled “Subway Life” by António Jorge Gonçalves, one of the most prestigious Portuguese draughtsmen, can be visited at the Santa Clara Market from the 7th to the 14th of September. This project began in 1998 when the artist started drawing people sitting in front of him or within his immediate field of view on the London Underground. Upon returning to Lisbon, he extended this project to nine other cities: Lisbon, Berlin, Stockholm, New York, São Paulo, Tokyo, Athens, Moscow, Cairo, in addition to Lisbon itself. The project inspired a book, reissued by the author in 2024, and an exhibition showcasing the drawings enlarged to human scale, creating a surprising sense of closeness with these strangers.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, THE COLINA DAS ARTES invited 20 illustrators to exhibit illustrations on the theme of Freedom, creating an exhibition circuit in the shop windows of the local businesses during these programmed days.
Grounded in the premise of cultural diversity, which is an identifying feature of the vibrant parish of São Vicente, THE COLINA DAS ARTES will “dress up” the streets and emblematic locations of Graça and São Vicente de Fora. Dedicated to all who reside and visit the parish of São Vicente, this is an event that rejects boundaries, focusing on cultural diversity, engaging with the territory through multiple uses of shared spaces, and promoting interaction and dialogue among audiences, communities, and generations.
