Joaquim Benite Municipal Theater
The Almada Theater Company announced the creations it will present in the 2025 Program of the Joaquim Benite Municipal Theater this Saturday.
A Dam Against the Pacific, by Marguerite Duras, directed by Álvaro Correia (March); In Praise of Laughter, by Maria Rueff and Rodrigo Francisco (November); and Mozart’s Magical Music, by Pedro Proença and Teresa Gafeira (in December, for children). TMJB’s 2025 Programming, which is part of the Portuguese Theaters and Cinemas Network, includes hosting 48 theatre, dance and music shows, three exhibitions, and an expanded program for children, with 13 plays and 25 creative workshop sessions.
In 2025, the return stands out — in July, during the Almada Festival, whose full program is presented next June — of French director Joël Pommerat (with Marius, based on Marcel Pagnol). Performances by Maria do Céu Guerra (From Mary to Mary, January), Hugo Franco (Rua do Inferno, January/February), Daniel Gorjão (MARIA, February), Tiago Guedes (At First Sight, May); Teresa Sobral (Class Enemy, May); Martín Bontempo (Suavecita, October); and Antonio Simão (Vento forte, October).
In the musical field, in addition to the São Carlos National Theater (with the Great Opera Choirs, in January, and an Easter Concert, in April), the TMJB hosts three concerts from the Capuchos Music Festival in May/June. Performers such as Rita Vian (February), JP Simões (April), Club Makumba (May), Prétu (September), Ana Lua Caiano and Katia Guerreiro (both in December) will also pass through the TMJB Main Room. With the support of the Share Foundation and Antena 2, there will be a cycle of five chamber music concerts throughout the year, with some of the finalists and winners of the Young Musicians Award and comments by Alexandre Delgado.
In July, Companhia Nacional de Bailado brings to TMJB a double program that includes Four Corners in a sonnet, by Fernando Duarte, and The Look, by Sharon Eyal. As part of the 5th Almada International Performing Arts Exhibition, organized by Casa da Dança in April/May, choreographies by French Nacera Belaza (L’envol), Brazilian Cristian Duarte (And never my hands are empty), from Greek Katerina Andreu (Mourn baby mourn) and Portuguese André Uerba (Aeffective Choreography). In October Paulo Ribeiro brings Almada Maurice accompagné, and in December the duo Solange Melo / Fernando Duarte presents Murmúrios de Pedro e Inês.
