Companhia de Teatro do Algarve, will be in Almada, in the Experimental Room of the Joaquim Benite Municipal Theater, on September 12th, at 9:30 pm, to present Michael Mackenzie’s text, Instructions to abolish Christmas. The interpretation is by Luís Vicente and Sara Mendes Vicente, with staging by Isabel dos Santos
Canadian director, filmmaker and playwright Michael Mackenzie debuted this text in 2011, revisiting the processes and shock waves of the so-called subprime crisis, which originated in the United States in 2007.
Thus he portrayed a global economic system held hostage by the financial sector – an impenetrable and dehumanized universe, driven from behind closed doors in which the lives of countries with risky investment funds are played.
The text would come to know a new version, in a narrative now contextualized by the uncertainty of the consequences of Brexit. “I hope that this piece will give you a glimpse, however small, of the dark and fragile mechanism of the machine of the world economic system, through these two characters caught in the turmoil of their collapse and in the implosion of their own lives”, wrote the author .
In this new version, they are exposed as emanations of a deformed humanity, marked by sociopathy and the dysfunctionality (of tragic contours) of blood ties, in an evocation of the great classic myths of Antiquity.
With staging by Isabel Pereira dos Santos, Portuguese director and actress who has lived and worked for several years in Canada, where she was councilor of the Montreal Chamber with the role of Social Action, and with the interpretation of Luís Vicente, here is a show about two characters in crisis.
Eminently ontological crisis – due to the inevitable contamination, in the relations between human beings, of the operating principles of world finance
