Concert in Coimbra honors Bernardo Sassetti on his birthday

In the tribute concert, in a fusion between Fado and Jazz, some of the themes that Camané sang with Bernardo Sasseti will be interpreted, but also original themes of the Trio Paulo Bandeira and other composers, in a jazz repertoire, but with European roots and aesthetics.

The tribute concert to Bernardo Sassetti, which features the Trio Paulo Bandeira, fado singer Camané and trumpeter João Moreira, is scheduled for September 5, at 6:30 pm, at the Colina de Camões amphitheater, at Quinta das Lágrimas.

This show was an integral part of this year’s Arts and QuebraJazz festivals, canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic, and was chosen to symbolically keep the music so abruptly suspended by the pandemic alive.

Bernardo Sassetti, who died on May 10, 2012, at the age of 41, was considered one of the most creative pianists of his generation, beyond the borders of jazz.

The musician started in jazz in his late teens, when he started playing with Carlos Martins and Moreiras Quartet, but the course was transversal in Portuguese music, having worked with musicians from fado, pop rock, hip-hop.

In September last year, an unpublished album was released, “Solo”, with compositions that Bernardo Sassetti recorded in 2005 in the Azores.

In the year that Bernardo Sassetti turned 50 another concert was also scheduled in his honor, this inserted in the summer program of the Center for Arts of Belgais, in Castelo Branco.

However, the concert, which was scheduled for June 26, was postponed to 2021, due to the covid-19 pandemic.
