On the 30th of June, at 9.30 pm, at Colégio da Graça – Liga dos Combatentes, it will be possible to attend a concert by the trio Susan Alcorn, José Lencastre, and Hernâni Faustino.
This is the third concert of the Fora dos Eixos program by Associação Jazz ao Centro Clube. Admission is free.
In this meeting, it will be possible to listen to the work “Manifesto” which was released on the 23rd of June. Two Portuguese musicians teamed up with an instrumentalist with a rare career, who continues to expand in her expression of that very particular instrument that is the pedal steel guitar.
“Manifesto” is the music of generous interaction, where melodies intersect with angular and abstract forms, always remaining a solid narrative that unites the trio’s improvisations.
Saxophonist José Lencastre and bassist Hernâni Faustino often share the stage and studios with various groups. They soon discovered that they had in common, in addition to their taste for jazz and improvised music, a great admiration for the work of Susan Alcorn. In August 2022, Susan Alcorn played in Lisbon, and José Lencastre invited her to record in a trio with saxophone and double bass. The session took place at Namouche Studios in Lisbon.
This concert is part of a series of activities that will take place in the coming months in the context of the JACC program Fora dos Eixos: artistic practices in a context of proximity, financed by DGArtes / Ministry of Culture and by the Municipality of Coimbra.

This program was designed based on the (re)cognition of the strong cleavages – generational, territorial, and holding of cultural capital – that interfere with access to cultural practices in the municipality of Coimbra.
As such, in the 2023/2024 biennium, the activities will take place in the parishes of the municipality of Coimbra, reaching out to people normally far from frequenting conventional cultural spaces.
Direct contact with communities, through partnerships with collectivities, parish councils, schools, and residents’ associations is the fundamental criterion.
