Quinta dos Franceses Park, in Seixal, will host, on the night of April 24th, the Commemorative Concert of April 25th, 1974, with the presence of great names in Portuguese music: Criatura, António Zambujo, Sara Correia, Stereossauro, Carlão and Nenny will be the protagonists and promise to captivate the audience.
Paulo Silva, president of the Seixal City Council, states that «this is a high point in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April in our municipality. I am sure that the public will attend in large numbers, to give shine to an initiative that brings together all the ingredients to be special and unique. After all, we are in a land of April and this is the spirit that we want to reinforce and perpetuate».
The first part of the concert begins at 9:30 pm, with the performance of Criatura, a musical group made up of 11 elements, from various geographies and musical areas, presenting a truly unique style of music that is based on a constant dialogue between traditional and modernity, orality and the written word, popular sounds and musical eclecticism. The concert continues with the arrival on stage of singer and musician António Zambujo, one of the greatest representatives of Portuguese music, language and culture today, nationally and internationally. Soon after, the lights will be on fado singer Sara Correia, who presents her third album, «Liberdade», which could not be more appropriate for the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April. Freedom is what you will hear tonight, but it was also what was heard in 1974 when the dictatorial regime in force finally came to an end and people began to live in democracy, with rights, and free access to culture.
At midnight, the long-awaited fireworks will appear over Seixal Bay to the sound of DJ (and also producer and scratcher) Stereossauro, who has won several world titles. In his name, his creations focus on reinventing Portuguese music, without distorting it, giving it an irreverent and uncomplex approach. After this moment, Carlão will take the stage, who was one of the vocalists and the main lyricist of Da Weasel, the mythical band from Almada (between 1993 and 2009), under the pseudonym Pacman.
Portuguese singer, songwriter and rapper Nenny, a young international artist of Cape Verdean descent, who grew up in a musical environment very rich in African rhythms, is the artist who closes the concert commemorating 50 years of freedom.
The celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the 25th of April in the municipality of Seixal will run until December 2026, the year in which the 50th anniversary of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic is marked, and their motto is “April, the Freedom that Unites Us”. In the commemorative program, aimed at all audiences, there are several initiatives organized by the Seixal City Council and parish councils, as well as other actions that institutions, the associative movement, the educational community and economic agents carry out. Among the various planned activities, which take place throughout the municipality, the highlights include visual arts, workshops, urban art, colloquiums and debates, dance, sporting events, reading moments, music and theatre, among many others.
