The American band made their first appearance in Portugal for an explosive show at LAV – Lisboa ao Vivo, to an in-the-know audience that was with them from start to finish on this first trip to Portugal.

Zebrahead, an explosive and irreverent punk rock band formed in La Habra, California, in 1996, performed for the first time in Portugal yesterday on the stage of LAV – Lisboa ao Vivo, a highly anticipated debut.

Nearing three decades of their career, the band brought their unique blend of punk rock and rap to Lisbon with infectious songs, in a fun-filled concert featuring songs from their albums Brain Invaders, MFZB, Broadcast to the World, Phoenix, Walk the Plank, Call Your Friends, I, II, III, Wanna Sell Your Soul?, and Way More Beer!, on a journey through their career.

We can hear “The Perfect Crime”, “We’re Not Alright”, “Hello Tomorrow”, “Homesick for Hope”, “Lay Me to Rest”, “Rescue Me”, “Postcards From Hell”, “When Both Sides Suck, We’re All Winners”, “No Tomorrow”, “Mike Dexter Is a God, Mike Dexter Is a Role Model, Mike Dexter Is an Asshole”, “Hell Yeah!”, “Fight for Your Right”, a cover of Beastie Boys, “Who Brings a Knife to a Gunfight?”, “Drink Drink”, “Sink Like a Stone”, “Worse Than This”, “Call Your Friends”, “Anthem” and also at the public’s request “Falling Apart”, “All My Friends Are Nobodies”, and yet another cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” with which ended this memorable visit to Lisbon.

With a global fan base, unfortunately, there weren’t many at LAV yesterday, but a small crowd welcomed them and applauded them during an excellent show that deserved a full house. They didn’t forget to stay hydrated, with a minibar on stage for refreshments during the show.

The current lineup consists of Ali Tabatabaee, lead vocals (rap), Adrian Estrella, lead vocals, rhythm guitar (joined in 2021), Dan Palmer, lead guitar, backing vocals, Ben Osmundson on bass, backing vocals, and Ed Udhus on drums and percussion. The band’s inspiration is Fugazi and Descendents.

With high-voltage energy, their fusion of hip-hop and punk rock, with two vocalists who share the rap and vocal duties, makes them unique on stage. With catchy melodies, fast guitar riffs, and energetic choruses, they fuse hip-hop and rock, where vocalist Ali Tabatabaee provides the rap verses and Adrian Estrella (and formerly Justin Mauriello and Matty Lewis) delivers the vocals.

Irreverent, with a refined sense of humour and adrenaline-fueled live performances, they are a band that fills any room with their music and leaves no audience indifferent.
