Fantastic concert by João Caetano presenting Cada Vez Mais
Teatro Maria Matos
João Caetano presented his most recent EP Cada Vez Mais at Maria Matos, composed from lyrics by the poet Paulo Abreu de Lima, a concert where he showcased the full power of his voice and mastery of percussion.
The talented Macanese multi-instrumentalist is also the musical director of Slow J and a producer with an international curriculum and more than 15 years on the road, but he has also collaborated with other big names such as Rui Veloso, Dino d’Santiago and Paulo Abreu de Lima.
João is also a member of the British jazz-funk band Incognito, formed in 1978 by guitarist Jean-Paul “Bluey” Maunick and made his solo debut at Maria Matos with his EP Cada Vez Mais.
This work features André Dias, Cam May, Karme Caruso and Ferg Ireland, and was recorded between Lisbon and London, with mastering by Mo Hauser, sound engineer for legends such as U2, The Script or Lily Allen.
His music with deep roots in traditional Portuguese music, in Fado, but with a current configuration, takes us on a journey through the sounds of Lavacolhos bass drums, Portuguese guitar and accordion, to which he adds a powerful and harmonious voice.
Maria Matos not only played the songs from his EP, but also songs that marked him, and which he recreated, such as “Tinta Verde” by Vitorino, “Fado Loucura” or “Canção de Embalar” by Zeca Afonso, with which he started the concert, which will remain in the memory of everyone who filled the Lisbon room.
