Ideas competition at the University of Évora

presents finalists with the potential to become a startup

“Do you have an idea in your head with feet to walk on?”…

It was with this motto as a challenge that the University of Évora promoted participation in StartUp PhD, the Business Ideas Contest launched last year by the academic institution, which is now coming to an end with the presentation of finalist projects.

It should be noted that the competition, open to the entire academic community, initially selected nine ideas with high potential to become a successful startup, ideas that have received, in recent months, the support of specialists in the development of their own business plans. business and the best strategy to move from idea to practice.

For Soumodip Sarkar, Full Professor (Department of Management) at the University of Évora and responsible for the initiative, “this final phase of StartUp PhD is the corollary of an exciting project that, in addition to promoting an entrepreneurial culture within the academic community, differentiates for supporting the transformation of high potential ideas into practical cases, with the creation of start-ups with a strong innovative and commercially viable content”.

“In fact, entrepreneurship and innovation within the University of Évora are characterized by having a very important practical component and close connection with the regional business ecosystem, so we aim for these to be the first of many ideas with potential that we will help to ‘ getting off the ground’ and transforming them into successful start-ups with an impact on the region” – underlines Professor Sarkar.

The final event of the StartUp PhD Ideas Contest will take place on the 27th of February, starting at 2 pm, at Amphitheater 131 of Colégio do Espírito Santo-University of Évora, with free admission.
