Lusophone Trofa Contest returns with extended participation rules and two grand prizes

The Lusophone Competition of Trofa – Matilde Rosa Araújo Prize celebrates a new edition in 2021. The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Trofa in partnership with Camões – Cooperation and Language Institute, continues to focus on the promotion of children’s literature and illustration, this year, with new regulations.

Through the portfolio of Culture, the Municipality of Trofa once again organizes the Lusophone Competition of Trofa, a partnership with Camões – Cooperation and Language Institute, which annually awards works of literature and children’s illustration. The objective of the initiative is to promote creative writing and to value literary expression; create and consolidate reading and writing habits; publicize authors from Portuguese-speaking countries and promote illustration in children’s literature.

The 2021 edition stands out for its novelties compared to previous editions. This year, authors can participate with or without published books and there are only two prizes: the Matilde Rosa Araújo Prize, for a better story, worth 2500 euros and the Illustration Prize, for the best illustration, worth 2 thousand euros. For publication purposes, the winner of the “Best Illustration” Prize will illustrate the short story that won the “Matilde Rosa Araújo” Prize.

The deadline for submission of papers is May 31st. The works can be delivered by hand at the Casa da Cultura da Trofa, until 6 pm; via mail, by registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt, or, in the case of those who are in a CPLP country, to the Portuguese Cultural Center of the respective country, as stated in the regulation.

The contest is aimed at citizens over 18 years of age, born in Portuguese-speaking countries (Portugal, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor) or naturalized, regardless of the country of the world where they reside. Foreign citizens who have been legally resident for more than 2 years in any of the CPLP countries can also participate.
