Contemporary Dance Festival is still going to happen in Évora

The festival is promoted by the Évora Contemporary Dance Company (CDCE) and will take place from September 27 to October 10, the organization revealed today in a statement. The event has a restructured program in order to respond to the current pandemic context, but will, as always, offer dance to audiences.

Small format shows and performances for small audiences, dance videos and ‘workshops’ presented outdoors and in a church are initiatives indicated by the organization and which will aim, through contemporary dance, to return some normality to life.

Still without divulging the program in detail, the Contemporary Dance Company of Évora said that the festival will open, on September 27, with the new creation of the emerging creator Carla Jordão, a proposal from the Companhia de Dança de Almada.

The FIDANC “poster” also includes “a short cycle” with works by the creator Amélia Bentes, with the CDCE revealing that the first work, entitled “Um Fio de Ar”, is directed to the public space.

The play “Ensaio sobre a Cegueira”, based on the work of José Saramago and a creation by the choreographer Nélia Pinheiro, from CDCE, from last year, in coproduction with the Câmara de Évora, will be presented on October 3rd, in the Church of São Vicente.

The children’s audience was also not forgotten in the festival’s program and will be able to access content on the ‘online’ platforms, namely the premiere of Gonçalo Almeida Andrade’s new creation, which presents a reflection on the impact of the current pandemic context on nature.

Dance videos by Portuguese creators will also be made available on the Internet, on a free channel, added the organization, who also mentioned that two contemporary dance workshops are planned, at the CDCE’s Black Box.

The 2020 edition will have a smaller, more intimate format, but the great artistic dimension of the contemporary dance language will be present.
