The contemporary Italian artistic heritage will be in focus from October 08 and 13, through debates, conferences, exhibitions and other activities at the Belém Cultural Center and the Italian Cultural Institute in Lisbon.
This is the First Week of Contemporary – Italian Contemporary Art, organized by the Italian Institute of Culture (IIC) of Lisbon, under the aegis of the Italian Embassy in Portugal.
Organized by the Italian diplomatic network, the event takes place simultaneously in several countries, and explores the different artistic languages, from painting to sculpture, from video to installations, from photography to design.
The program of the “First Week of Contemporary – Italian Contemporary Art” takes place at Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB) and at IIC, and includes several initiatives, namely the “Mentis” exhibition, which will be open until November 30.
The open class “Sironi novecento and the monumentality in art between the two wars”, by Professor Elisabetta Maino, specialist in History of Italian Art and Architecture, which will take place on October 9, Tuesday, at 11:00 am, at IIC.
On Wednesday, October 10, at 19:30, in the former IIC Lisbon Chapel, the exhibition “Form Mentis” by the artist Paola Pezzi, whose works are characterized by a strong manual component, is inaugurated.
The artist debuted in the late 1980s with sculptures modeled on pictorial modalities, contemporary materials (polyurethane, foam, canvas), and launched in the late 1990s.
In 2000 he began to make sculptures, assemblages created with a display of objects removed from reality (cork, wood, felt), using pictorial material (crayons, crayons, charcoal, rubber, paint pallets), and materials everyday life (straws, sticks, fringes, cotton buds, matches, sewing bobbins).
Also on 10 October at 18:30, IIC Lisboa hosts the conference “The past before the present – the contemporary experiments in the Museums of the Campania Region”, by the director of the Polo Museale della Campania, Anna Imponente.
The Polo Museale della Campania brings together 28 different cultural entities, including museums, archaeological sites, Carthusian and historical residences, which Anna Imponente has encouraged to be also places of excellence for the diffusion of contemporary Italian art, indicates the organization of the event .
To conclude this first exhibition of contemporary Italian art, the conference “The Italian Post-War Art through the Works of Collezione Farnesina” by Angela Tecce, which takes place on Friday, October 12, at 7:00 p.m. room Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen of the Centro Cultural de Belém.
Angela Tecce is director of the General Direction of Contemporary Art and Architecture of the Italian Ministry of Goods and Cultural Activities and member of the Scientific Council of Collezione Farnesina with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
She is dedicated to the study of 20th century art and is considered one of the leading Italian specialists in the field.
In Portugal, the ‘First Week of Contemporary – Italian Contemporary Art’ was anticipated with the inauguration, on September 14, of the exhibition “Flores do Mar”, by the artist Bruna Esposito, at the College of Arts of the University of Coimbra, where can be visited until October 25.
