“Hunchback of Notre Dame” closes cycle at Casino Estoril
with an exclusive show for the Ukrainian community
The production company Caixa de Cena closes, next Sunday, December 18th, at 11 am, a cycle of representations of the musical “Hunchback of Notre Dame” in the Estoril Casino Auditorium.
This is a special and exclusive session for the Ukrainian community in Portugal. In a pioneering project, the show will be simultaneously translated into Ukrainian.
The special session of “Hunchback of Notre Dame” is a joint initiative between Caixa de Cena, represented by Ricardo Castro, and the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal, represented by its President Pavlo Sadokha.
The “Hunchback of Notre Dame” has successively sold out the Estoril Casino Auditorium. It is one of the most famous works in the world adapted to musical theater in a memorable and emotional version for the whole family, where justice, friendship, and love win in a show about the passionate story of Quasimodo, the Hunchback of Notre Dame!
Imbued with boundless racial hatred, Frollo, who has kept Quasimodo locked up in the cathedral all his life, orders an end to the Parisian gypsy community. His plans end up failing when he loses emotional power over Quasimodo and Captain Febo’s support, all because of the beautiful and fearless Esmeralda, a gypsy who challenges Frollo’s principles and encourages Quasimodo to fight for freedom.
Marginal and isolated as the bell ringer of the cathedral where he lived his entire social life, Quasimodo symbolizes difference and the struggle for social acceptance. Esmeralda represents the gypsy community of the time, persecuted throughout history by the ecclesiastical judge Frollo, alluding to the need to fight against xenophobia.

The Estoril Casino Auditorium will host the latest representations of the “Hunchback of Notre Dame” next Saturday, the 17th, at 11 am and 5.30 pm; and on Sunday, the 18th, at 11 am (exclusive session for the Ukrainian community in Portugal). M/3. Prices: from €12.50.
