The Grupo Novo Rock was at the Corroios Festival. They arrived and won over everyone. They replaced Jorge Palma, who was unable to attend for health reasons, and they brought all their classics to the stage.

“Dunas,” “Popless,” “Sangue Oculto,” “Pronúncia do Norte,” “Vídeo Maria,” “Efetivamente,” among others, are GNR classics that captivate any audience, as they did once again in Corroios, with many fans singing along.

They remembered that they were on stage replacing another great name in Portuguese music, Jorge Palma, who is still recovering from surgery, and to pay tribute to the firefighters, who have worked so hard and suffered to put out a Portugal in flames.

GNR is one of the most iconic Portuguese rock bands, formed in Porto in 1980. Known for its pop-rock sound and ironic, intelligent lyrics, the band became a staple of the “Portuguese rock boom” of the 1980s and continues to sell out venues and win over new audiences.

The band’s original lineup included Tóli César Machado (drums), Alexandre Soares (guitar), and Vítor Rua (guitar). However, the most well-known lineup, which cemented GNR’s success, consists of Rui Reininho (vocals, since 1981), Tóli César Machado (drums and multi-instrumentalist), and Jorge Romão (bass, since 1983).

Throughout its career, the band has undergone several stylistic shifts, from its initial post-punk sound to a more pop and electronic sound, always maintaining a strong identity and a dedicated fan base.

GNR boasts an extensive discography, with albums that have left their mark on Portuguese music:

  • Os Homens Não Se Querem Bonitos (1985)
  • Psicopátria (1986)
  • Rock in Rio Douro (1992)
  • Popless (2000)
